Song for the Solstice

We spent the autumn
stroking
toward the bottom of the quarry,
thinking –
Can't be too much deeper,
any colder, all that darker.
Proving
there was always
lower still to go.

We reached the nadir.
Bracing
our feet against the bedrock
we shoved –
Desperately determined,
kicking, shooting
struggling skyward
toward the light we know.

Oh, that really is lovely. And so true, particularly this year. Onward and upward.

From someone who has her feet caught in the weeds, this was a welcome knife! xx

Lovely. Bittersweet, yet hopeful.
